Three and a half weeks have already went by. The fourth graders are doing a great job in my classroom. The students enjoyed making their own classroom laws, class pledge, and flags the first week of school. I am happy to say that almost all students are successfully following the laws that they helped create every day.
Starting today, I will be updating this blog every week. On the posts, I will let you know what we are learning during that week, which Study Links are due for the week, and any important information that you need to know.
Throughout the past three weeks, we successfully completed Unit 1: Naming and Constructing Geometric Figures in math, and we are beginning Unit 2: Using Numbers and Organizing Data. This week, I will begin small group instruction based on the Unit 2 pre-assessments that students completed last week.
In social studies, we have been learning about the different social scientists: historian, political scientist, economist, and geographer. The students are beginning to use their knowledge of the social scientists to learn about different regions of our country.
In science, we are patiently waiting for our ecosystem specimens to arrive. Until the rest of our unit arrives, we are learning about the scientific process as well as looking at the life of a tree. Ask your child to tell you about his/her tree.
Study Links due this week:
Tuesday 9/14: S.L 2.1 due
Wednesday 9/15: S.L 2.2 due
Thursday 9/16: S.L 2.3 due
Friday-Monday: I will be sending home an optional math project about organizing data.
*Your children have also learned a few new math games: High-Number Toss, Addition and Subtraction Top-It, Fishing for Digits, Subtraction Target Practice, and Name that Number. These games can be played with a deck of cards, a die, and a calculator. These are great games to play as a family or with siblings.

Message from the Librarian, Ms. Meghan: What a great start to the year! Students are so excited to be checking out books, and they are doing so at every opportunity. This also means there is a large number of books coming back to the Library, and they need to be put back on the shelves (books are due Monday Mornings). If there are any parents who would be willing to come into the library to help shelve and organize books I would love the help. Please feel free to swing by the library to say hi, there will also be a sign up sheet outside on the bulletin board .
Thank you, Ms. Meghan Bluemel
Have a GREAT week!
Miss Grant
